Pros - The Positives of owning a Caique Parrot

• Playfulness - Caiques love to play, especially on their backs aswell as swinging from chain or ropes across the cage
  they are indeed a pleasure to watch.
• Cuddles - Caiques love cuddles and scratches, when they want them however
• Hopping Mad - once you see the Caique hop you will never forget it
• Eating - Caiques are very good eaters and rarely refuse food.
• Education - Caiques are very intelligent little birds, they learn very quickly with educational toys aswell as with imitation.
  They are fabulous impersonators and whistlers
• Night time - Caiques love to settle to bed, they accept a routine very easily
• Other Pets - Besides the problem we highlighted in the cons Caiques adjust to other pets fairly easily, of course common sense is always a must.

Cons - The Negative side in some cases

• Noise Levels - these little guys can become very loud at times particulary when "search calling" if your neighbour complains that your telly is too loud, then owning a caique could cause problems
• Biting - Caiques can get over zealous when playing and are capable like all parrots of giving a nasty bite, Caiques love reactions and consider this as "game play" if they like your reaction when they bite they can and do continue to do so.
• Talkability - Caiques are not fantastic talkers, they can say a few words but if you want a "talky" parrot a Caique isnt for you.
• Mess - Caiques can be very messy particulary when eating berries
• Boredom - Some not all Caiques get bored - rotating their toy supply is a must.
• Other birds - Not all Caiques like other birds and can be very aggressive, introducing other birds when young is better

General Bit - Somewhere inbetween

Caiques are "beaky" birds, they like to use their beaks to explore, they are also notorious chewers they love to chew anything and everything, it doesnt take them long to make mincemeat of many of their toys.

Should a caique be your first parrot? Caiques are cetainly not a parrot for somebody with little or no bird experience.
Caiques need gentle guiding with their behavior. Never use an aggressive attitude with your Caique they will be just as aggressive back at you.
If you don't set boundaries it can and will lead to serious problems with your caiques behaviour.

Caiques are also first class at picking up on our emotions, never under estimate their intelligence, these birds have surpassed themselves at surpising us with different almost human qualities, their are huge gigantic loving, funny, intelligent, fiesty, entertaining, comical, big hearted personalities wrapped up in a beautiful little package, the most adorable of parrots. (yes yes i know, but we love these guys, if you own one you will know where we are coming from)
