Told by his owner David Pell

    Jasper 5 weeks old

    5 Weeks Young

Well, I've beaten my humans into submission to make them bring you all up to date with my progress. I'm 5 weeks old now, these pictures were taken yesterday.

It's strange but over the last week, I've been hearing funny noises from my humans and I've been able to see my uncle and aunt through this strange little black box which my humans turn on and off. They keep talking about my aunt and uncle nesting - I've no idea what this could possibly mean. But hey, enough about them, this is all supposed to be about me, me me!

As you can see, I'm changing weekly. My humans keep talking about little paintbrush like feathers on my back and muttering something about how much you can see the green in them. I wonder what green means - is that something I could eat? Yum, I still love my food.

I've recently had my incubator moved now into the main room of the house - it's great, I can see all sorts and best of all, everyone can hear me when I shout. More next week. Catch you later.

    A Word from David -

I managed to get Jasper to be quiet for more than 5 minutes!

Hope you are all enjoying seeing Jasper grow. He is weighing 120grams as at this morning and doing well. His ears opened up this week and he is bright and alert. The decision was taken to bring him into the main rooms of the house this week to get him used to the general noises and business of a house full of people, birds and dogs! Jasper of course is loving this and taking every opportunity to have a good look around him.

The first couple of days it was a bit overwhelming for him and as a result he didn't put much weight on. This is quite normal, but worrying. My friend's great dane has taken a big interest in Jasper's feeding times and puts his head on the counter whilst Jasper is being fed and has a good look. If he thinks that someone is going to hurt Jasper, he starts growling - this is a 12 stone dog, so quite formidable!

Jasper is really doing very well and I reckon it will probably be something like 10 weeks from now before Jasper can come and live here with us (my wife and I, Murphy and Lilly, the greys and Bella the greyhound).

6 weeks old!, More growth saga

    Jasper here!

Hello Guys, how are you doing out there. I'm doing well here, I'm now clambering onto the furry toy which my step-dad gave to me when he was feeling sorry for me. It's great, coz now I'm getting bigger I can use it to climb on and look out to find out what's happening. It's a big old world out there and I can't get out properly to explore it yet...... soon, it's all part of my big plan for world caique domination

I now weigh 125 grams and I'm getting more and more of those needle things, you humans call feathers, in all different colours! Bet you won't recognise me next time you see my pictures.

In the meantime, David has coerced me into showing you a picture of me which he took last week - it's not my best, I must admit, but I was doing something that all young caiques love to do - EAT!!!!!!!!!! I do get in quite a mess so believe you me, I find it quite embarrassing. Hey, ho, I'll get my own back.

    More soon fellow friends.

    Yo Dudes, here I am

    Jasper 7 weeks old

    New Surroundings, 7 Weeks Old

Hellooooo, it's me, Jasper - I'm let loose again

I shall have to make sure that I explore ever where and report back to you soon. I need to be able to keep nice and warm and if I start to get a bit cold, I've been told that I'll be going back into my incubator - they'll have to catch me first, I'm discovering my legs and wings!

I'm still spending most of my time indulging in my favourite activity, eating

I think I look great now, I've got more and more feathers and I keep being told that you won't recognise me next week. Well, I've got news for you, you'd better!

My big body guard - Jamie, the Great Dane loves to see me and gave me a great big lick the other day - it was rather revolting! I know I'm supposed to like water, but that was ridiculous. My step dad thought it was funny but told Jamie off and then proceeded to wipe me all over. You can rest assured that my step-dad was in total control of our encounter. Not that I needed it, as I'm hard!

    bye for now

    A word from David

Jasper really is developing his own personality now. He is growing rapidly and has already gone past the weight of a parent reared bird of his age. He weighed 138g as at Sunday 26th August - for those of us still on the old imperials that is approximately 5 oz.

His plummage is really coming through now and when I see him again this weekend I have already been told to expect a big surprise - rest assured I'll be sharing that with you all soon.
